Burgundy French Morrocan King James Version Pocket Bible
Published in Leather Bound by Riverside World (June, 1980)
Author: World Bible Publishing
Average review score:

Small, portable, perfect for street witnessing, etc
I own a slimline Bible, which I thought was a great size and for the most part it is perfect. After a mission trip where we did alot of street witnessing and I carried my slimline all day long along with tracts and more in a back pack, I realized I wanted to have tracks and Bible in my pockets, rather than in a backpack. This Bible is perfect for that. This version has a zipper, rather than a snap, which I think is ideal. It is the size of a deck of cards and thanks to the zipper, the pages don't get ruined, nor does the snap closure make it fatter. The letters are small, but it is impossible to expect the letters to be normal size, and for good eyesight, this is not an issue.

Burgundy, Genuine Leather, KJV ¿ Very Good!
If you order by ISBN# 0-529-06059-0, then you will receive a burgundy, King James Version, genuine leather tiny Pocket Bible with a snap flap! I love mine! It has gold accents and is so tiny, it fits neatly in my pocket and purse. It has small print, but if you have 20/20 vision, you should be able to read it just fine. I looked in many places, and you cannot get a better price anywhere other than Amazon.com.

The "Book of Books" in miniature
The poetic beauty of the King James Version and timeless grace of the Biblical text are combined in this unique miniature version that can be carried easily wherever one goes, in pocket or purse. It enables the reader to "be ready in season and out" with the scriptures, which are able to make one "wise unto salvation through faith in Jesus Christ" 2 Timothy 3:15. No time need be wasted, whether waiting in line or parking lot, when you have the immortal Word of God close at hand!

Complete Foaling Manual
Published in Hardcover by Equine Research Inc. (October, 1996)
Authors: Theresa Jones, Steven Miller, and Christine King
Average review score:

Very informative and easy to read.
Foaling horses is definetly a very long process especially if you intend on being there for the whole delivery. This book explains what to look for and what will happen during the foaling process. It also tells what to expect and the musts for after delivery. It was very easy to read and understand by real people. I drag it out for each foaling I attend even though I have read and re-read it more than once.

Clear, reassuring information.
When my mare was near term this was the one book that I had with me at all times. Where other authors of foaling books tend to emphasize foaling horrors and disasters, Theresa Jones emphasizes what is normal. She makes you very aware of what can go wrong, and gives ample instruction on how to recognize an emergency or abnormal situation, but she does it in a way that helps you remain confident rather than helpless.

Excellent in-depth common sense advice.
Theresa Jones has created a wonderful, easy to read and understand manual that is a must for the first time or experienced horse breeder. The book is accurate, written so it is very understandable by the layman, yet full of good medical advice and knowledge. To supplement the book Theresa Jones provides an advice column online to answer specific problems encountered in foaling.

Everybody Has a Tumor: Cures for the Negative Thoughts That Are Cancerous to Our Lives
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (January, 2001)
Author: Brian R. King
Average review score:

BRIAN HITS IT ON THE NAIL.
A terrific read. Brian really hits it on the nail. As a sales training company owner, and book author myself, who is at a crossroads right now in his life, Brian King's story and advice is one for any 30 something. An extremely perceptive individual, Brian reminds us that our "issues" are everyone's issues. His lessons remind us to not wait until we are confronted with physical crises before we address our emotional crises. Lessons such as helping others - WITHOUT THE GOAL TO BE HELPED BACK - are huge. His "Hara" of the only two things you can control- Who You Are and What You Do is dead on accurate. For anyone who has ever thought they are alone in the world and seeking human fulfillment, this is a must read.

Todd B. Natenberg<

A Book of COMFORT and HOPE
"Everybody Has a Tumor" is an inspiring book about this authors ordeal with testicular cancer and how he overcame it. I recommend this book not only for all cancer patients and their families, but for anyone who has been through anything tragic in their lives. Overcoming tragedies in life is not easy - this book offers COMFORT and HOPE for all who read it! While it teaches anyone suffering from an ailment that they must not allow their minds and their spirit to feel the same way their body does, it also teaches those whove suffered a tragedy in life to move on and not allow that tragedy to break their spirit.

Hope Beyond Our Trials
Brian King's personal story is not only inspirational but offers the most important component of overcoming, and that is hope. Without hope we have nothing. Brian also shares some of his wisdom , based on his personal experiences, to guide us along the way. Take the journey and experience the hope.

Go, Cat, Go!: The Life and Times of Carl Perkins, the King of Rockabilly
Published in Paperback by Hyperion (Adult Trd Pap) (June, 1997)
Authors: Carl Perkins and David McGee
Average review score:

What a man; what a life!
I'll admit it -- I'm biased toward Carl Perkins. I lived several years in his hometown of Jackson, TN and met him many times. Having those experiences, I was curious how this book would portray Mr. Perkins. After reading this book, I have more respect for Mr. Perkins. True, he wasn't perfect (who is?), but he had reason to be bitter about his career and his life, instead he never gave up. He pulled himself up after each setback and kept on striving. When you think about it, what would be the alternative? He was not only a great musician, but an active humanitarian. His work with children and their causes is nearly as impressive as his musical career, yet most people don't know of this. I went to Carl Perkins' funeral, and in the little city of Jackson, TN you would have thought time stood still. This book will give you the feeling of getting to know a true American success story . . .

Inspiring!!
What a story!! This should be a must read for all of us who get to feeling sorry for ourslves. Carl Perkins came from abject poverty,a racially discriminating South, was known as "white trash",wrote one of rock n rolls seminal tunes, was on the brink of superstardom, lost it all, became a sideman to another Sun records stablemate, delved into the pit of addiction, rose again, had alot of his early work recorded by a group known as the Beatles, played with the likes of Eric Clapton, loved performing with his own family, lived his life humbly, nursed somewhat of a grudge against Sam Phillips,Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis, made peace with himself, and left behind the legacy of a man who had seen the beast within and had conquered it.
This is a must read for anyone who has any interest in music,or for that matter, the sociology of the South during the late 1940's and 1950's. It is also ,quite simply, one of the most inspiring books that I've ever read,Thank You, Carl Perkins!

Go Carl, Go!
Much has been made of the tragic events in Carl Perkins' life, but in the end his values and personal strength stood him in much better stead than most of his Sun contemporaries (see Escott and Hawkin's book on Sun Records). Pretty good for a kid who, with his brothers, were skinny from undernourishment as children. This book follows Carl from childhood until near the end (he passed away shortly after publication). The section on the Tennessee tonk scene in the 40's and 50's and "tush hogs" is especially colorful.

A Heart Like His: Intimate Reflections on the Life of David
Published in Hardcover by Broadman & Holman Publishers (September, 1999)
Author: Beth Moore
Average review score:

Superb Treatment of David's Life!
A few years ago the women's Bible study in my church went through the video version of "A Heart Like His." I heard glowing reviews from one lady after another, speaking of how pertinent and powerful the material was. Unfortunately, it was then geared exclusively to women, so I never watched the videos myself.

With the memory of those glowing reviews still fresh in mind, I decided to purchase the book version and see for myself if Beth Moore's teaching lived up to its reputation. I was certainly NOT disappointed. This book is an outstanding treatment of the triumphs and the tragedies of Israel's most famous king.

Moore takes practically every significant incident from David's life and applies the spiritual principles to life today. Through her exposition here, the reader gets to know David much better, and learns why he has been called "a man after God's own heart." The author's treatment is chronological, starting from the events surrounding David's emergence on the Biblical scene as a young boy to the transfer of his throne as an old man to his son Solomon.

I recommend this book very highly to anyone wanting to gain a better understanding of the life of King David. The book is very easy reading, yet is profound in its insights. Men and women, clergy and laity alike will benefit from Moore's painstakingly thorough work.

A moving, humorous, tearful journey through David's life
Beth's book is a wonderfully written journey through the life of a man who sought God's own heart. She fluctuates between humorous observations on the actions of the Biblical characters I thought I knew so well, and touching parallels to the life of the ultimate "Son of Man". This book held me captivated from the introduction to the final period. I look forward to more books like this from Beth.

Wonderful book teaching through the Bible for women today
A wonderful work, Beth, is available to God to be used, and ends up blessing all of us. Our women's Bible Study is just finishing this work. All the women are anxious to do another work by Beth, and love her style of waiting on the Lord to speak to her, and acting in obedience. It has taught me many things that I can use in my daily life as a christian.

Holy Bible New King James Version Slimline Flushcut

The Simple Bible.
If you have been looking for a plain, simple Bible, you know how hard it is to find one (The Milkmen's Edition anyone?). I wanted a Bible that is full of the Word of God, not of the word of man! Don't get me wrong, I read plenty of the "word of man" works, but I didn't want any IN my Bible. After some research and some comparisons, I settled on the NKJV version. It reads almost like the NAS, which I was used to, but a little more fluid, I thought. And the translation work is very scholarly. This IS the update of the Classic King James Version.
So, I looked at several versions of the NKJV, and this Slimline was the only one that had the text, and very, very little of the other stuff. It doesn't even have the cross references, which I feel forces you to memorize more, which is good. If I had my ways, I would get rid of the Words of Christ in red feature, aren't they ALL God's words?? But, I can't have it all, apparently.
I found this version to be of very high quality, and very plain and simple. I made sure to get the Genuine Leather version, because my previous experience with Bound Leather was a disaster. If you read your Bible a lot and take it places, the Genuine Leather version is the only way to go, if you want it to last.
So, in conclusion, if you are looking for a Bible that is plain, of compact size, yet still very easy to read (the text size is just perfect), this is the one.

This Bible Rocks!
It was exactly what I was looking for. Small size, not a lot of notes and other junk on the pages. Great Bible with a great price.

Perfect size for carrying around!
Not too small nor too large. The print is just the right size as to not give eye strain to the average person This is the one I like to take to church because of compact yet very readable size. Has a ribbon marker, christ words in red, gold page edges. Its a must have for anyones bible collection.

I Have a Dream - 40th Anniversary Edition : Writings and Speeches That Changed the World
Published in Paperback by Harper SanFrancisco (May, 2003)
Author: Martin Luther King
Average review score:

AMERICANS SHOULD REALIZE THIS 'DREAM' TO THE FULLEST!
Dr. Martin Luther King's collection of writings and speeches, "I Have A Dream", brings aspiration to light. The events that surrounded the life and death of this true hero reveals the shameful fact that no matter how great the United States of America is today, it is one country that was nurtured with inhumane machinery: slavery, racism, injustice, Mickey-Mouse freedom, and Mickey-Mouse democracy. I hate to think about it, but it is an honest fact, which we should all come to terms with. Nobody can rewrite history.
The 256 pages that is "I Have A Dream" was enough to highlight the wickedness and the violence that were deliberately sustained in America, for a full century, after a bloody Civil War ended her tenacity on slavery.
One question that will always beg for answer is: How on earth did U.S. Presidents who presided over the ruthless color-bar era qualified for those Nobel Peace Prizes that they received? Knowing what life was like in the U.S.A. just a couple of decades ago melts my heart. "I Have A Dream" is a big eye-opener!

The essential King
"I Have a Dream: Writings and Speeches That Changed the World," by Martin Luther King, Jr., is a fine collection of texts by this important figure. The book has been edited by James M. Washington. Coming in at less than 300 pages, this is a concise but meaty book.

Washington includes King's most important texts: the "Letter from Birmingham Jail"; the "I Have a Dream" speech; his Nobel Prize acceptance speech; "My Trip to the Land of Gandhi"; "A Time to Break Silence," his 1967 speech criticizing the United States war in Vietnam, and more. These writings and speeches cover King's great themes: nonviolent resistance, the African-American civil rights movement, etc.

Those seeking a more comprehensive collection of Kings' work should seek out "A Testament of Hope: The Essential Writings and Speeches of Martin Luther King, Jr." also edited by James M. Washington. At more than 700 pages, this is a truly monumental collection, and includes much material not found in "I Have a Dream": the 1965 "Playboy" interview, transcripts of television interviews, and more. But for those who want a shorter text that cuts to the heart of King's life and work, "I Have a Dream" is perfect.

"I Have a Dream" reveals King to be a true Christian prophet, and a man with a global vision. As literature, these texts also show King to be the heir of such American thinkers as Henry David Thoreau and W.E.B. DuBois. Highly recommended.

Soul Force
In his famous "I Have a Dream" speech, Martin Luther King, Jr. used several techniques and devices that were central to the theme of the civil rights movement. One such device was his use of time-sensitive words such as "now" that served as instigators aimed at prompting immediate action. He asked his listeners to seize "the urgency of the moment" because he knew that his cause had garnered enough support to make the push toward total, unrestricted equality. He warned his opponents that they would not see rest until freedom was won; there were far too many people rallying for justice than could be ignored.

King also spoke about the importance of using "soul force" as opposed to physical force. He was determined to be guided in every action by the principles of relentless nonviolent resistance, similar to the ones lived and taught by Gandhi. He knew that his soul force, although seemingly tedious at times, would eventually triumph over every last obstacle of hatred standing in his way. Even though the country was still very much in a state of transition at his passing, King's soul force did indeed lead to the civil rights movement's success. To those members of our society still fighting for freedom even today, that success stands as a powerful testament that no matter how bleak the situation, nonviolent soul force can overcome unjust bias and discrimination. I believe that this is an important lesson, and therefore, I also believe that every American should read King's speech; it is clear that even today, we all still have something to learn.

I Love Guinea Pigs
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Author: Dick King-Smith
Average review score:

An excellent introduction to the care of guinea pigs!
I bought this book for my daughter just before we got her first pets, two guinea pigs! The pictures are lovely and the book covers guinea pig likes and dislikes, as well as their basic needs from vitamin c to clean water. The best part though is the author's continued assertation that guinea pigs love to be cuddled!

Absolutely charming!!
If you don't have a guinea pig, this book will make you want to get one

Exquisite!!!
I think adults can enjoy the book as well. Smith is charming, witty and very knowledgeable about the species.

A Child of the King
Published in Paperback by New Life Pubns (July, 2001)
Authors: Bill Bright and M. R. Wells
Average review score:

Pretty good reading here.
The story's main character is Jotham. He learned to be a wood crafter while in the orphanage and then began work in Acrasia. The back of the book describes it best:

"[The authors] take us to a place that seems familiar, yet full of suspense and mystery. The authors bring us to a world that pits good against evil in the larger-than-life kingdoms of Prince Morning Star and Prince Abaddon. Read as these mighty rulers battle for the hearts of Jotham and the people of Withershins."

**** Here is a book that will lift your heart and strengthen your faith. I enjoyed every minute I spent within the pages of this novel and am happy to recommend it. ****

A magnificently engaging and fully satisfying fable
Collaboratively written Bill Bright and M. R. Wells, A Child Of The King is a fantastic and entertaining tale set in the mystical land of Withershins. A simple orphan's quest to find his father plunges him into an inexorable tidal wave of dark machinations, kings, princes, power struggles, and a great deal more in this magnificently engaging and fully satisfying fable.

For 'children' of all ages
A powerful tale for 'children' of all ages.....I was spellbound! Beautifull written, every page made me fall in love with the "People of the Book". This is a story that families will enjoy for generations to come. I'm eagerly awaiting the rest of the trilogy!

Wonderful Study Bible
The NKJV Women's Study Bible is a must-have for all women who wish to be closer to God. Written by women for women, you'll find this Bible beautifully written and an excellent study aid.

Spiritual Food
The Woman's Study Bible leads with the words" Opening the WORD of GOD to WOMEN", I cannot define it better. I have found that I am able to develop a relationship with the LORD. It has helped me to open a once closed heart jaded by our times. We do not always want to discuss with others certain issues as we may feel isolated. All these issues have been addressed and have made it easy for one to dig deep within to stoke the fire of GOD in us. The topical notes are inspirational. I am blessed to have a diverse ethinc background. Still, this Bible spoke into my life, it will into yours.

A-Rate: Woman's Study Bible
This bible is in the New King James version and is more "readable" than other versions. In addition, the excerpts on the Women of the bible are superb. It gives in depth analysis of the women of the bible, and how to pattern your life as a Christian woman. Excellent.
